This weekly ritual is all about making time to paint and to push myself to learn something new. Each week, I choose a subject that interests me—a flower, a bird, a landscape, or a building—and try different watercolor techniques.
I share short videos of the process here and on Instagram, along with a few notes about what I’m working on and learning along the way.
Weekly Study #4: White Flower
This week, I learned how to suggest “white” without using any white paint — to paint this flower.
Weekly Study #3: Zinnia
The Zinnias in my garden are post-peak and this one in particular was fading into a gorgeous apricot color!
Weekly Study #2: Pumpkin
To paint this pumpkin, I took Anna Mason’s pumpkin tutorial. I had fun using the stippling technique to create the pumpkin’s wonderfully uneven texture.
Weekly Study #1: Geranium
This week, I chose to paint a coral geranium, inspired by the ones that filled the many pots on my parents’ back deck in Virginia.
